HP DesignJet 500 and HP 500 PSThe HP DesignJet 500 and HP 500ps were introduced at Seybold several years ago. Both can produce A D-size drawing in 90 seconds if in fast mode , yet in photo mode you also get photo quality output.
You can select from 42" or 24". What's more, the 1200 dpi quality and speed is priced at about what the Encad Chroma 24 used to cost , which only offer ed 300 dpi output and user unfriendly ink tube loading situation. Even the 42" the HP 500 is a price bargain. Due to the unexpected quality of these new printers we at FLAAR are flooded with requests for our opinion based upon inspection of the printers. Tradeshows offer a great deal of information on new printers like the HP DesignJet 500 and 500ps. If you are considering going on your own, you ought to arm yourself in advance with the FLAAR Reports , which cut through much of the nonsense in ad claims. Many of the FLAAR tradeshow reports are still available at no cost. Others are bonus reports for people who purchase FLAAR reports by series. Contact the staff at FLAAR and let them know what kinds of images you aspire to print and what other printers you have looked at . This information allows us to help you select a printer that will best suit your needs. Keep in mind that although the HP 500 and 500ps are capable of printing photo-realistic images, these printers do not have pigmented inks nor are any planned. No after-market UV pigmented inks are available either. In other words, neither the HP 500 nor the HP 800 is an alternative to the Epson 7600 or Epson 7500. Also recognize that the HP 500 and 800 are intended for CAD and GIS. These are not production printers for commercial sign shops. The HP 500ps is a good entry level printer but i s very slow. Nonetheless, the quality these printers can produce is a dramatic improvement over the HP 430, 6xx, and 7xx series. If either of these printers will be your first large format printer, then we have a special report that leads you through all the basic question s. The report is entitled " Help and Tips; relative to RIPs for large format printers." It explains what RIP software is, why it is useful, and includes tips, warnings, information, and help for a wide range of matters for a newbie. For further information, contact ken@scarabgraphics.com . They handle Canon, HP, Mimaki, and Lyson Tiara solvent ink printers. The company ColorDNA offers additional information for CAD, GIS, Wide Format Inkjet Printers , Print for Pay and other needs for an HP DesignJet . | Most of our updates for summer 2008 onward are in FLAAR Reports in Adobe Acrobat PDF format. It is more efficient for us to make new information available in PDF format. So if the web page itself is not updated, check out www.wide-format-printers.NET to see if the printer, RIP, or other subject is covered in an update in a PDF download. | |||||||||||||
