BARBIERI electronic, manufacturer of densitometers and spectrophotometers for the large format, flatbed and industrial printing markets and GMG proofing RIP provider, announced a strategic partnership with the intent to provide color management solutions for the large format printing sector. According to the agreement, GMG will offer a special proofing RIP bundle including GMG ColorServer 4.6 and BARBIERI will offer their spectrophotometer Spectro LFP RT.

This creates a color management solution to the demands of industrial digital printing and inkjet printing on every media, including special ones such as cardboard, banners, backlit film, fabrics, silk, plastic plates, wood, stone, and ceramic plates.

With the assistance of a profiling system to calibrate a wide range of print devices, GMG ColorServer and the BARBIERI Spectro LFP RT can be used to achieve optimal color quality. This is especially true for mixed environments with various front-end RIPs for different print systems. All output devices in use at the end user's production site can be harmonized to a dedicated color standard.

The most important features of the spectrophotometer are:

  • Optics for UV printer requirements to get accurate measurements.
  • Automatic transmissive and reflective measurements in one device.
  • Switchable measuring aperture (2 and 6mm) - 2mm for high resolution prints on media with high quality surface, 6mm for low resolution prints or structured/textured surfaces.

In November 2008 it was possible for Dr. Nicholas Hellmuth to visit the BARBIERI headquarters in South Tirol (northern Italy) and we were introduced to the new system (GMG+BARBIERI at the GMG booth, PRINT 09 in Chicago).

GMG, color management provider, and Mimaki Europe, wide-format inkjet printers and cutting machines manufacturer, announced a related strategic partnership providing a solution for high value packaging applications.

Mimaki has optimized their venerable UJF-605 UV inkjet printer for digital proofing in the offset, gravure and flexo packaging industry. In combination with GMG color management technology, color match, spot color reproduction and optimum print quality with a resolution of up to 1200dpi can be achieved on any substrate such as shrink or metallic foils, tin and compound boards. Time and cost can be reduced by replacing press time and costs of printing plates and gravure cylinders for digital production.Almost any printing stock can be used and it is possible to apply the same finishing process as to the final product with the GMG-Mimaki solution. No other solution on the market allows for this, except a real press proof.

The applications of this solution are:

  • Color-accurate digital proofing on original substrates used for production - with white ink and varnish support,
  • Digital production of color-accurate packaging mock-ups/prototypes – often requested in the packaging design phase or for customer acceptance tests,
  • Short runs/personalization - replacing time consuming and expensive prints on the production press.

GMG ColorServer 4.6 color management software in combination with Mimaki UJF-605 printers is certainly a solution for all kinds of businesses engaged in flexible packaging, compound board packages or tin printing.
