Contour cutting, digital die-cutting, flatbed XY cutter router, DYSS X7 series

FLAAR Reports will add digital finishing (cutting, routing, trimming) to our coverage for 2009. We had intended to evaluate the DYSS X7 series flatbed XY contour cutting systems with i-Cut from MGE. But not many of the DYSS distributors survived long enough to allow an opportunity to study the cutter.

In a period of economic recession printshop owners will seek an XY flatbed contour cutter and router that is reasonably priced.

As soon as it is possible to visit the DYSS factory in Korea and/or the demo room of the master distributor, we will begin our full scale evaluation.

I have seen the DYSS cutters at trade shows such as SGIA 2008 in America and VISCOM Germany in Europe and am familiar with the original master distributor, Planet Digital. But Planet Digital was separated from DYSS a month before FESPA Digital '09. And the supposed US distributor has not staged any exhibits recently, indeed at ISA (where they were not exhibiting) the US distributor said he had not heard from DYSS and did not understand what was going on. But I understand from Peter Barton that there are new distributors being added in the UK and elsewhere in Europe. So when a distribution network is up and running, I will see how they are doing at the various trade shows in late 2009.

So instead we are looking at Kongsberg and at the Gerber M-series cutters. We are also beginning to look at AXYZ routers. FLAAR has already visited the MultiCam factory in Dallas, but realize there is a difference between a CNC router that has an XY contour cutter added as compared to an original XY contour cutter. There will be several new FLAAR Reports on flatbed cutters during autumn 2009.
