FLAAR begins to evaluate the EFI VUTEk HS100PRO uv combo roll to roll printer Print

The EFI VUTEk HS100 Pro is a production UV-curing printer that offers rather impressive quality output at a higher speed compared to other UV printers.

Production and comparisons with other UV-curing printers

This printer can produce up to 100 boards/hour in Production Mode mode and up to 50 boards/hour in POP Mode.

The newer version, the HS125 Pro can produce up to 125 boards/hour and up to 90 boards/hour in POP Mode.

This is a higher production than what's offered by other printers. For example, the EFI VUTEk LX3 Pro handles up to 94 boards/hour in Express Mode and up to 64 boards/hour in Production Mode.

Note that the specs of the LX3 use "Express Mode" to hit the 94 boards, wheras the EFI VUTEk HS100 Pro and HS125 Pro both use the "Production Mode" to hit (or pass) the 100 boards.

Although EFI's website does not specify what size of boards is used to take these measures, we have heard testimonials of print shop owners acknowledging the HS100 Pro printer is a real production monster.

Interesting features in the EFI VUTEk HS100 Pro and HS125 Pro

The printer has an impressive optional automated media feeding system that increases productivity. A similar automatic system was available for the EFI VUTEk GS3250 and its newer versions.

The optional automated feeding mechanism is designed to speed up production times.

But perhaps the most interesting feature is the dual curing capability: These models are perhaps the only printers that use both mercury arc UV lamps and LED lamps to cure.

This feature allows the printer to produce variable finishes in the same print: glossy and mate.

The HS100 Pro is able to produce applications such as:

  • Styrene
  • Fluted poly propylene
  • Card stock
  • Foam core
  • Corrugated board
  • Aluminum
  • Recycled-content boards

The HS100 Pro features a 5.08 cm diameter for media thickness, being able to print on the applications listed above, and also by a 3.2 m print width.

This is a flatbed plus roll-to-roll printer, which handles 8 colors and a multi-layer white with an option of having a matte or gloss finish to increase a photographic image quality. All this is managed by using Seiko printheads with a 12 picolitter drop size, using their selected ink.

What kind of people and print shops tend to buy an EFI VUTEk printer?

We visit print shops around the world and have been to several which have switched to EFI. Two were HP shops before and both switched to EFI VUTEk and were pleased and content. One was considering buying a second VUTEk. We have also visited printing companies who previously had a nice Durst Rho printer, yet they switched to EFI VUTEk.

The owner of a Gandinnovations flatbed also switched to a VUTEk printer and was soon considering a second EFI printer. He said what was noticeable about EFI was that they offered all the software that you needed, including MIS.

We have visited printing companies in the UAE, South Africa, and USA all of whom shared their experiences with us. The team of SAGA provided access to one of their customers in the Middle East.

If you wish Dr Nicholas to visit your printing company

and/or any of the FLAAR team of ink, media, textile or other specialists to visit your print shop (anywhere in the world) simply cover travel, hotel, meals and a consulting fee of $3200 and Dr Nicholas will come and answer your questions and provide tips based on his experiences. He flies about 230,000 km every year and has visas for countries of every size, shape, and culture.
