Consulting services for both end-uses and also printer manufacturers (and ink companies)

FLAAR is a consultant for printshops around the world (Turkey, Thailand, Monaco, Greece, Guatemala , Slovenia, Mexico, USA, Canada, just to name a few countries).

Dr Nicholas Hellmuth is a consultant to about 20+% of the UV printer manufacturers and many of the textile printer manufacturers (around the world).

He is consultant to ink manufacturers, component manufacturers, and media manufacturers or distributors as well.

Plus, in the last ten years, he has received over 52 ,000 e-mails asking his assistance for what printers to buy (he has an entire staff that assist him to answer these e-mails, and scores of FLAAR Reports that provide tips, assistance, and suggestions). Fortunately not all 52,000 needed a consulting appointment!

Probably more than 15% of the Fortune 500 companies of the world have asked for FLAAR reports (so they can decide what printers to buy). 90% of the US government federal agencies and bureaus have written directly to FLAAR to ask what printers their agencies and bureaus should purchase.

Which large format printer suits your needs, and your budget?

UV-cured flatbed printer? Or textile printer? Or the HP latex printer?

How about billboards? Do you need to print on textiles, transparent (backlit) material, canvas, art paper, or normal photo paper?

Do you wish to buy your vinyl, backlit, vehicle wrap subsctrate or other signage material in bulk? By the container? FLAAR often knows the original manufacturer where you can get a builk discount (for ink also).

Do you wish to print fine art giclee? What about printing on glass?

If you are doing either industrial printing, or architectural décor on ceramic tiles, glass, metal, wood or other materials, FLAAR has access to the information that you seek. Do you wish to print on glass (and not have it rub off later)?

Now that billboards, banners, vehicle wrap are all commodities (going to the lowest bidder), how can you offer print services that will recapture some profit in your community and region?

What about laminating your finished prints? Did you know that you can print on economical bond paper and then laminate your print with a result that is visually more impressive than printing on super-expensive photo gloss paper?

Dye sublimation heat transfer? What are the differences between direct-to-fabric and dye-sublimation via transfer paper on a calendering machine?

What about “green” printing for ecology?

Should I risk buying an HP latex printer? Dr Hellmuth has been trained on HP latex ink printers in Israel and at HP world headquarters for R&D inkjet printing R&D in Barcelona (in fact he is there for a second time for latex ink in July 2009; he has already been a guest four times previously in earlier years).

If I buy a new printer today, what printer technology tomorrow or new ink chemistry may make me wish I had learned about the new things first?

In other words, what new inks will replace most solvent inks, will replace some UV-curable inks, and offer advantages over HP latex inks? Dr Hellmuth is already consultant to several key companies who are developing innovative new inks.

But the new inks do not automatically mean you should skip UV-cured or HP latex inks today. The best printer for you may already exist; you may not need a futuristic machine.

If your boss just assigned you to figure out which large format printer your company should chose, but it's a tough choice because of all the hype and exaggerated speed statistics? You have come to the right place. Just ask for the independent consumer advocate information from FLAAR, a nonprofit institute. Our institute sends reports by Nicholas Hellmuth, in handy PDF download format. Or, you can hire FLAAR and ask questions directly to Dr Hellmuth via telephone or Skype.

So to learn about future trends and strategy to survive during an economic downturn, FLAAR is a place to invest in. Our readership is up every month this year (2009) over the corresponding month last year (2008) because in a recession people prefer to get an independent outside opinion before they buy any printer over $40,000 (especially if it costs $90,000 to $400,000).

Consulting Services for Manufacturers

First and foremost Dr Hellmuth can review your entire printer, from inside out, to assist in spotting a few key missing features, or other potential issues, glitches.

The UV printer of the Swiss manufacturer Luscher was a total disaster. They went to considerable effort to make sure that no outside consultant could provide suggestions. The result was an entire project down the drain.

The flatbed printer of several major printer manufacturers (otherwise successful and revered names in the industry) caused brand name deterioration because they were unable to accept outside assistance (consultants are not usually accepted in some Asian cultures, because the CEO and senior management do not like to be told, not even gently, that the printer they designed has problems). So one by one, printer model by printer model, they waste millions of dollars pushing their flawed machines on the world.

A single day of consulting could have turned these projects around years ago.

OEM manufacturing

European and North America manufacturers are understandably unsure as to which printer manufacturers in Korea, Taiwan, or China can provide reliable services. China is of particular issue, though in fact there is actually reliable potential there. Taiwan, however, is completely different: there are highly competent factories there already , And within Korea there are tremendous differences between various factories (both in technical capability as well as philosophy of the owners and top management).

FLAAR has been inside these factories, has known their management for years, and can provide knowledge of what to avoid, and what to seek.

Consulting Services for Ink Manufacturers

The most interesting, innovative, and impressive new ink chemistry of 2004 failed, utterly, to succeed in the marketplace. Why?

No, it was not the chemistry. At least not the chemistry of the ink. What was it that caused millions of dollars in ink chemistry from a substantial international ink company to be totally ignored?

Today the same thing has happened to other “miracle” inks. So if you have an ink, its benefits, potential, and everything else good about it will be virtually useless unless you understand how all this works in the real world.

So rather than having your R&D utterly wasted, you might wish to hire a specialist in marketplace reality.

Consulting Services for Component Manufacturers

If you have a curing system, ink pump, conveyor belt, or any other component, you can learn ten years of accumulated knowledge about the wide-format inkjet industry from a discussion with Dr Nicholas Hellmuth.

Consulting Services for Distributors

If you attempt to distribute a printer, RIP, media or other product from the wrong manufacturer, you can lose money (and ruin your reputation also).

If you hook up to distribute some printer brands, you will be ruined by repair costs (and ruin your reputation as well).

You can save yourself a lot of mental stress by hiring Dr Nicholas Hellmuth as a consultant to provide an independent discussion on which manufacturers to avoid, and which are excellent partners. We at FLAAR are not perfect and we can't predict every glitch in the 45 brands and over 73 different models, but our own knowledge plus the abundant information we harvest from colleagues means at least we have a good background knowledge and experience to suggest which brands of UV or textile printer are more likely to be popular with your clients than other brands.

Custom engineering, unique solutions for industrial applications

Increasingly we are asked to help design a completely new solution for an industrial application. So companies need help in selecting printheads, firmware (software), inks and ink delivery systems, engineering and manufacturing capabilities.

Consulting Services for Financial Analysts & Investment Companies

FLAAR provides discrete services so you can decide (and understand) which companies are worth investing in, which companies are over-rated and not worth it, and which companies are going downhill (which may, or may not, make it worth buying them for a song).

Future TRENDS, which companies are successful? What is causing other companies to fail?

The recession is not usually the main cause of a product failing. Even weak technology is not the only cause of a product nor being successful. Business style, personality, and lack of ethics may be more a cause than the recession for the downfall of a product or an entire company. Our new TRENDS reports analyzes the fall of specific companies. The FLAAR TRENDS reports also point out which features allow some Asian companies to be successful whereas 90% of the Chinese printer manufacturers have either withdrawn or simply not been successful in Western Europe and North American markets.

FLAAR analyzes UV printer manufacturers in Japan, in Korea, in China, in Taiwan, in Israel, Europe, and North America. Plus, when you order the FLAAR TRENDS reports you get the direct telephone number and Skype number of Nicholas Hellmuth so you can ask for additional information on precisely the topics that are most important to your goals and interests.
