Nicholas Hellmuth + FLAAR give high marks to the Scitex Vision CORjet (HP Scitex FB6700) Print
Scitex Vision CORjet is now named the HP Scitex FB6700

Outside Milano, Italy it was possible to inspect a recently installed Scitex Vision CORjet during the Milan Viscom trade show in late 2005. Indeed we got invited to the inauguration party. I had earlier seen the CORjet in many trade shows both in Europe and across the USA.

The quality of print from the Aprion printheads of the Scitex Vision CORjet is better than I would have expected. The quality is especially nice when you consider what you are printing on, such as sheet-fed corrugated cardboard packaging for upright display, or display containers, or shipping boxes.

For these years there was no other competition. Now Durst offers their Durst Rhopac, and shortly Sun will offer their FastJet (constructed by Inca). FLAAR was invited to visit the FastJet factory by Sun Chemical's German office. But in 2009 there will be another newer UV-curing competitor for the packaging industry, from another company.

Scitex Vision CORjet is now the HP Scitex FB6700

During the transition from Scitex Vision to HP it has not been easy to keep track of the new names. It is even more of a challenge to understand why such well-known brand names were buried by a new corporate identification strategy when the original names were so well known (and hence very valuable commodities).

FLAAR is offering personalized consulting at each trade show. You can walk-the-floor with the Senior Editor of FLAAR and get his comments on any and all printers, inks, RIP software, color management, substrates, applications, etc.

So if you wish to learn about the difference between combo, hybrid, and dedicated UV printers, how latex ink compares, about textile printers, etc. contact FLAAR to obtain consulting.

You can also get consulting before ISA or FESPA anywhere in the world: Dubai, India, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, China, Korea, London and more.

I can remember CORjet, but my brain shuts down when it is asked to even try to remember FB6700.

Anyway, here is a rough approximation of the new names:

Scitex Vision CORjet = HP Scitex FB6700

Scitex Vision XLjet+ = HP Scitex XL1200

Scitex Vision XLjet = HP Scitex XL1500

Scitex Vision Grandjet = HP Scitex Grand

Scitex Vision TURBOjet = HP Scitex TJ8300

UV-cured version of TURBOjet = HP Scitex TJ8500

Scitex Vision VEEjet + = HP Scitex FB6300
Updated VEEjet = HP Scitex FB6500

Roll-to-roll UV = HP Scitex XL2200 with X2 MEMS printheads

Irrespective of how many times the name of this CORjet printer has changed printer, the output of this Scitex Vision printer still looks handsome. At trade shows in 2007 and 2008 the HP Scitex FB67000 has continued to reveal impressive quality. But when I talk to printshop owners, some clearly say the print quality of the HP Scitex FB6700 is not acceptable for their clients, and they want higher quality. So these are printshop owners and managers who look at the Durst Rho printers, such as the Rho 800, as but one example.

But since I myself find the CORjet an impressive technology, I am still interested in learning more about it, since at trade shows people literally stop me in the aisles and ask me what million-dollar printer I recommend. Although we have been taking notes all these years, there is still no FLAAR Report on the CORjet or HP Scitex FB6700. For a printer of this size (and $750,000 price), our non-profit institute needs funding to tackle handling such a giant machine.

The HP Scitex FB6700 printer evaluations
Scitex Vision CORjet is now the HP Scitex FB6700. The HP Scitex FB6700 printer was exhibited at VISCOM Spain 2007.

But we do have a report on the Sun FastJet, because we had hours of time to interview the team that designed it, hours in the factory, and complete access to whatever we needed. The university has stated that all university institutes need to obtain outside funding for projects with corporations. Corporate funding has come in for the Durst, Gandy, VUTEk and other brands, so we started with those systems first.

Packaging printers to receive more attention by FLAAR during 2009

During 2008 more owners of printshops hired FLAAR as a consultant, or sent us e-mails, or stopped me at a trade show and asked about printers for packaging, both flexible packaging and also fiberboard, both corrugated and uncorrugated. So during 2009, I and FLAAR will gradually add more material on printers for packaging samples, prototypes, and short-run production. Already one UV printer manufacturer has asked to do a joint project with FLAAR on these packaging applications and markets.
