Seiko II ColorPainter M-64s mild-solvent printer review; new ink, lots of new features Print E-mail

Seiko II ColorPainter M-64s eco-solvent printer review

In London it was possible to have a private presentation of the new ColorPainter M-64s. This is an interesting technology.

Half the world has gone to UV-cured printers. Not because it is the best but because this is what is available (Seiko II in USA now offers a good option for UV via JETRIX). A slowly growing percentage of the world is experimenting with latex ink. As with any ink it has benefits and downsides. A noticeable downside of (HP) latex ink is the lack of color pop and weak color gamut (Mimaki has more color). To experience better color for your clients a low/mild solvent ink is a better choice.

But now there is an option in the more popular eco-solvent field, resulting from new ink chemistry combined with advanced engineering from Seiko. They now offer a printer with the advantages of low/mild solvent ink (reasonable longevity, color saturation and pop) but with the less odor of eco-solvent ink. So they have the new printer listed as eco-solvent.

Seiko I Infotech (SIIT) exhibited this at an international level first time at FESPA London 2013 as their new ColorPainter M-64s, a high-speed inkjet printer with more than one hundred improvements suggested by owners.

The new ColorPainter M-64s offers 64-inch (162cm) wide printing in 6 or 7 colors, with speeds up to 66 m²/h. This printer can of course print on diverse signage and graphics materials but is focused on achieving printing speed on PVC since it is the most popular material for signage and vehicle applications.

Low odor & high speed SX ink

SX inks supports both low odor and speed. SX ink inherited the SIIT's traditional high density print characteristics for backlit applications, which makes effective light blocking consistent with extreme details in shadow areas.

7th Color (Gray) model

7-color model allows the use of a 7th ink color - gray. The addition of gray to the standard 6 color inkset improves real monochrome printing with no color shift, and offers smoother gradations in color prints.

Automatic Print Adjustment

This function uses an optical sensor to automatically calibrate the printer when new media is loaded. Just run the automatic print adjustment and then start printing with maximum quality.

On-Carriage Ionizer

The on-carriage ionizer neutralizes static electricity on the media, automatically reducing static-related print issues – even in low humidity environments. It helps keep printing consistent all year around.

Smart Pass Technology 4 (SP4)

SP4's new dot control algorithm controls ink flow and mixing to generate ideal dot size on each media, which results in superior image quality. This makes the printer perfect for both indoor and outdoor applications and effectively negates banding at high-speeds in each print mode, without compromising overall image quality.

Dynamic Dot Printing Technology (DDP)

DDP controls and optimizes dot size and dot density to make consistently rich bold glossy colors with fine details. DDP also facilitates high density printing without any speed loss.

Improved Media Takeup Unit

Now handles media roll weights up to 50kg (110lbs.). It offers a new loose mode that minimizes the potential for transfer of ink from the printed surface to the liner.

Media Lifter

Media lifting mechanism helps the operator load and unload the media on the printer.

You can control your new printer via TWITTER

Remote communication function

CP Manager software means you now can notify an operator by email or a Twitter message. CP Manager can be operated directly from a PC, tablet or cell phone and now communicates in even more ways to keep you informed about what the printer is doing. It also allows the operator to remotely control and initiate operations.

2-year warranty

M-64s comes with 2-year limited warranty (may vary by region). Warranty support is provided by Seiko II authorized channel partners throughout the world.
Note: this two year warranty also covers printheads (assuming the printer operator is not responsible for head strikes).

Free RIP Software

The ColorPainter M-64s comes bundled with ONYX RIP Center Seiko II edition.

Back-up Nozzles: the feature I really like: Smart Nozzle Mapping 2 (SNM2)

A decade ago ColorSpan had a system they called a "buddy nozzle," whereby an extra nozzle could replace a clogged nozzle. Not many other companies offered this sophistication. Now the Seiko ColorPainter M-64s offers SNM2, "Smart Nozzle Mapping." This is a new dot control algorithm which has upgraded the performance of the Smart Nozzle Mapping function in the M-64s, hiding missing nozzles better when clogging occur.

Best is to inspect the Seiko ColorPainter M-64s at your nearest distributor

So many new features are included that it is almost best to get a demo at your local distributor.
