SGIA 2012 Las Vegas, Exhibitor List for printers, inks, substrates Print E-mail

SGIA (Specialty Graphic Imaging Association) is one of the popular printer trade shows in the U.S., which brings together exhibitors from all around the world, who wish to display the best of their wide-format inket products to thousands of visitors who walk the halls during the three days of the event.

Below we list the kinds of products you can expect to find in the sign expo exhibitor list. Of course SGIA also offers screen printing, still a major industry. But the FLAAR Reports cover primarily wide-format inkjet printers, flatbed cutters, inks, media, coaters, laminators, and RIP software.

SGIA entrance. New Orleans, 2009. The SGIA 2010 exhibit was much larger and had better audience. We look forward to seeing the exhibitor list for SGIA 2012, October 18-20, 2011, Las Vegas.

SGIA 2010 was in Las Vegas from October 13th to the 15th, 2010, at Las Vegas Convention Center, if you are interested in signage you could also expect to see the same kinds of products at SGIA 2011 in New Orleans. We will check the SGIA 2013 exhibitor list as soon as it is available (usually a few months before the expo opens).

FLAAR has been attending SGIA since 2002

FLAAR team in front of Convention Center SGIA 2012 Las Vegas.

Our service is to assist the trade show organizer by helping printshop owners understand the benefits of attending.

FLAAR has a staff of about 12 people. Six of us attended SGIA 2010 in Las Vegas. We had a trained team also at SGIA 2011.At least four will attended SGIA 2012, since we promote this trade show to our readers (trade shows are essential to attend).

Why so many? Because we have over lots ofprintshop owners, managers, and printer operators around the world who depend on the FLAAR Reports for leaning what is new, what are the TRENDs, which printers, inks, media, substrates, software, coating, laminating, or XY flatbed cutters to look at.

About 201,000 artists and people in the fine art photo and giclee printer world read our web site on fine art giclee printers last year.

Over 336,700 people read our web site last year (lots of these photographers will seek a printer).

Lower hall very busy at SGIA 2012, Las Vegas

More than 354,000 people around the world read our web site (eco-solvent and UV-cured printers, cutters, etc). These are reader statistics: not a hit count (which is multiple millions).

Above half a million readers came to our web site (water-based printers, textile printers, inks, media, RIP software, coaters, laminators, etc). Actual count is 588,123. Even if you discount repeat visitors we estimate it is over half a million.

So if you add up all the readers for our network, even if some people are reading all four of our web sites, total is over a million people a year.

It is not realistic for a trade magazine to list the downsides, the issues, and the parts of a printer that need to be improved. Obviously no PR agency will be able to alert you to both the pros and cons of a printer, ink, or cutter. But at FLAAR, we learn what hardware and software works acceptably, and which products have glitches. This information goes into the FLAAR Reports (available on

During a recession even more people get tired of PR releases, Success Stories, faux-reviews, and sham reviews. Print shop owners and managers need to know the actual pros and cons of an ink type, printer system, etc. So we get more readers since they prefer a more independent resource.

Attendance at SGIA has been increasing

Attendance in 2012 was acceptable and we would estimate will be even better in 2013. Some people prefer Las Vegas; others prefer Orlando. I was a visiting professor in Orlando for about five years. But I realize that Las Vegas is also popular for trade shows.

Entrance registration SGIA 2012, Las Vegas

SGIA 2012 will be was back in Las Vegas. SGIA 2013 will be in Orlando.

Las Vegas and Orlando are definitely better than other locations of past venues. For example, it is a good business decision to skip St Louis (even though this is my home town, it is a boring place for an international expo). St Louis has one of the best zoos in the entire USA; has one of the best botanical gardens and major botanical research centers (Shaw's Garden), good highway system, and is not overpriced like Duesseldorf for DRUPA !

But St Louis is not an enticing place for an international expo (nor is Atlanta; crime rate in downtown Atlanta is too high as well). Downtown St Louis is simply not alive at night.

I look forward to returning to Las Vegasfor SGIA 2012.
