FLAAR begins to evaluate the Dilli Neo Titan RTR3204DX roll to roll printer Print E-mail

Roll to Roll UV curing printers are increasingly popular and 3.2 meter width is one of the preferred widths for this kind of printer. There are dozens of different brands; we focus on a brand where we have visited the factory (twice) and know the company and its distributors around the world.

A brief  history

After many years of exhibiting its flagship wide-format printer, the Neo Titan, the Korean manufacturer Dilli, surprised everybody at ISA 2012, with the Neo Titan RTR-3204, a new dedicated roll-to-roll printer.

After that successful introduction, the printer has been exhibited in major US trade shows, SGIA and ISA, and elsewhere around the world.

Why would you choose a UV-cured RTR instead of a Solvent RTR?

If you have shopped around for wide-format inkjet printers at any tradeshow, you probably already know that a UV-cured RTR printer will be much more expensive than a solvent RTR printer.

So, why would you choose a UV printer? Let's see some of the main advantages of UV ink:

  • It has less odor than solvent ink (if you have a good UV ink)
  • It goes from liquid to solid instantly (less dry time)
  • It is less harmful with the environment (and your health, especially if LED cured)

A UV curing printer releases significantly less VOCs (volatile organic compounds) which are the cause of a solvent printer’s strong smell.

Of course, the main benefit(s) of UV over solvent are in applications

With UV inks you can print on more materials. Some UV inks can even print on PE (a material much more practical than PVC vinyl). But to print on PE you need to do careful profiling, as it’s a “slippery surface” in some respects. But PE, such as ARIA brand, has no many benefits it is worth experimenting. First experiment is to learn whether LED curing or mercury art curing is best for PE.

Another material to be used with UV-curing ink is fabric material; you don’t need latex ink; you don’t need textile ink; many fabrics create great soft signage and other applications when printed with UV-curing ink.

Why consider Dilli over other manufacturers?

Korean manufacturers have gained a reputation of rolling out high-quality equipment.

They have to, since they don’t want to produce cheap low-bid equipment which falls apart; has no resale value; and you can’t get spare parts after a year because the components have changed (even if the model of the printer remains the same).

When you see a printer made in Korea, you can expect to see a sturdy and reliable piece of equipment that won’t give you lots of headaches.

Dilli is one of the best-known Korean printer manufacturers. It has been producing UV printers since 2003.

Several years ago, Dilli was trusted to be the original manufacturer for a major european printer brand.

Dilli’s CEO, Dr. Keung Soo Choi (PhD in Engineering) is a pleasant gentleman that tries to be present at as many tradeshows as his tight schedule allows him.

Dr. Choi and the Dilli management team are the kind of people you feel comfortable doing business with.

As seen above, the Dilli UV printers have a specified method to read the model number.

So in the case of the Neo Titan RTR3204DX,

  • RTR stands for a true roll-to-roll printing capability
  • 3200 mm print width
  • 4 colors, with double printhead,

being the reason why it uses 8 heads of Konica Minolta 1024i, and a UV ink flexible for roll-to-roll with CMYK and white.

The media handling can have two different options, with an input of 1 roll with a 3.2 m media, or 2 rolls with a 1.5 m each side by side, handling the next applications:

  • Polyethylene
  • Paper
  • Mesh
  • Vinyl
  • Textile
  • Blue-back paper
  • Banner
  • Synthetic paper
