Upcoming FLAAR Reports by Nicholas Hellmuth on the 72” Graphtec JS300-18ES eco-solvent printer

FLAAR has been commissioned by a leading European trade magazine to do research and prepare an article on the past, present, and future of Chinese solvent inkjet printers and Chinese UV-curable flatbed printers.

The 72” Graphtec SignJet JS300-18ES eco-solvent printer is a good example: a rebranded Chinese printer from Infiniti. So first we will go to our archive of Chinese printers, and find which Infiniti model it is based on. There are so many Infiniti printers in China it is hard to keep track: Infiniti FY 6250sl, Infiniti FY 6150, Infiniti FY 8250x, Infiniti FY-8250, Infiniti FY-8180, Infiniti FY-6250, Infiniti FY-6180.

Then there are Infiniti printers sold in Europe. These are similar, yet slightly distinctive. They even have different names (even when the same chassis): Infiniti Xterius 15, Infiniti Xpert 32, Xplorer 33, Xtream 23s.

So we are checking out Teckwin (via Gerber and Matan), Yaselan (via Redhill), Infiniti (Aeromatrix), Flex-Europa (Kanger), Euro-Tech, Digirex and other solvent inkjet printers. The last three are Chinese-Turkish cooperative ventures, with inputs from other countries too; many of these enterprises are very international.

The Infiniti-Graphtec venture is unique in some ways. We just saw the 72” SignJet JS300-18ES eco-solvent printer at NBM trade show in Indianapolis. Earlier I saw a 72” JS300-18ES eco-solvent printer at SGIA 2005. I believe I saw one also at ISA 2006 (but there were so many Chinese printers there it was hard to keep track).

Over the coming months we will report back as we learn more about the SignJet 72” JS300-18ES eco-solvent printer.

Then we will be looking at the Infiniti UV printer, Flora 1800 UV printer, Raster Printers 72UVZ and Daytona, Teckwin Techsmart 1600, and other Chinese UV-curable inkjet printers.

We compare Chinese printers with Taiwan UV printers such as the Eastech Scutum, GO Fuzion; and Korean printers, especially Dilli NeoPlus and the Agfa :Anapurna L and XL.

All are contrasted with icons of US and European printers such as the ColorSpan 72UVX, Zund 215, and Gerber Solara.

Our findings so far (Chinese vs Korean vs Japanese/European/American) are very informative. The results stress some aspects relative to UV printers with the situation for solvent printers being slightly different. After all, building a solvent printer is relatively easy compared with the complexity of a UV-curable technology.
